Kenny’s Virtual Library - KVIRTLIB Version 1.0 5/3/2000 KVIRTLIB was written to allow you to more easily read the many FREE books available on the Internet. These books can be downloaded from several locations, and then "Added" to your personal Library. They are then available for reading. KVIRTLIB has many features that are not available in any other program, that I’m aware of. That is the main reason that I wrote it. I couldn’t find anything like it on the NET. FEATURES -------- LIBRARY I wrote KVIRTLIB to simulate a real library. You can find books on the NET, download them for FREE, then "Add" them to your personal library. As books are added, they are listed each time you enter the library. As the library gets larger, there are other features that allow you to search for a particular book, by Author, or by Genre. There are 16 genres that can be selected as you add a book into the library. You will see all of them the first time you enter the library. USERS There can be as many users as you like, each using the library. Each user is added to the library once, and then each will have their own bookmark file. When you first start KVIRTLIB, choose "Add User". Then type in their first and last name. Then click "Add User to Library". A new bookmark file will be created just for them. When you "Enter" the library, their name will now show in the list of users. This means that each person can be reading a different book, each bookmarking as they progress through the book, without interfering with any other person’s bookmarks. As you enter the library, the list of users will be shown, and the desired one chosen from the list, by double clicking their name. This will take you to the next screen, listing the genres and the authors. You can click on an author, which will then show his name in the window below. Then double click the author in the window, or click "Search by Author", and all their books will show below. Then double click the title and you're now at the fisrt page of the book. The library can be searched for a particular genre, or author, and then the desired book opened for reading. Or you can click on the BookMarks button, and open a book that you have already started reading. BOOKMARKS The main feature in KVIRTLIB is the Bookmark. This works like a real bookmark that you would use with a real book. After opening the book, and reading some of it, you can place a bookmark in it, and close the book. Then return at a later time and continue reading it, right where you left off. Each user can have bookmarks in as many books, as you have in the library. The bookmark is placed, or moved, with one mouse click. It couldn’t be easier. When you decide to continue reading the book, click on the bookmark button. This will present you with all the books you currently have bookmarked. You can then double click the one you want to continue reading. The book is opened and you are immediately taken to the page you placed the bookmark on, to continue reading. THIS DEMO --------- This is the demo version of the full KVIRTLIB program, to let you try it out for free. The only features that are disabled are the "Add" and "Delete" books. All the other features are enabled. This should allow you to decide whether you like it or not. I have included three books in this demo. These are: "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", by Frank Baum (the one the movie was based on) "To Build a Fire", by Jack London "Oregon", by John B. Wyeth. This one is actually a journal of Mr. Wyeth, as he crossed the western US, in the early 1800’s. Very interesting reading. These books were all downloaded for FREE from the Internet. There are classics, like "Robinson Crusoe", "Treasure Island", "Ivanhoe", and thousands more. Most are at least 75 years old, and in the public domain. You would be surprised to find out what books are out there, all to be downloaded for FREE. You can create your own personal library of these books with KVIRTLIB. If you decide to purchase KVIRTLIB, the price is $14.95 (US), which includes lifetime upgrades, as they become available. Also, I will be posting different books on the net each week, so you can download them, without having to look for them. When you register KVIRTLIB, I will add you the the Update email list, so that you will be notified when updates are available. Registered users will also receive a Windows help file, that explains all the features in KVIRTLIB in detail. The file you are reading now is a very abbreviated discription of KVIRTLIB. KVIRTLIB is written for WINDOWS 95/98/NT4.(I haven't tested it with Windows 2000 yet, but it should work) INSTALLING THIS DEMO To install the KVIRTLIB Demo, download the KVLIB10.EXE file. It is a self- extracting ZIP archive. Follow the prompts and take the defaults. This will install it in the C:\Program Files\Kvirtlib directory. A shortcut will be placed in the "KVIRTLIB - Kenny's Virtual Library" Folder. You can "drag" a copy onto your desktop, by holding down the RIGHT mouse button, and then drag the icon onto your desktop, release the mouse button, and choose "Copy here". To uninstall KVIRTLIB, open Control Panel, choose Add/Remove Programs, and then double click the Kvirtlib entry and follow the prompts. Also drag any other copies of the Kvirtlib icon to the trash bin. Then, delete the Kvirtlib directory, to complete the uninstall. For questions or comments, you can email me at: kvirtlib@hkrmicro.com If the response to KVIRTLIB is great enough, I will be adding an e-Commerce site to allow you to purchase KVIRTLIB right on the NET, using a credit card, and SSL secure transactions. OR you can email me with the request, and I’ll give you the address to send a check to. (US currency only) When you purchase KVIRTLIB, I will email you the full version. The file is less than 300k bytes. This assumes that you have the demo installed. So if you decide to buy KVIRTLIB, don’t uninstall the demo. The demo MUST be installed to upgrade to the full version. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy this demo of KVIRTLIB, your Personal Electroninc Library. Kenneth Richardson kvirtlib@hkrmicro.com
